American Auto Bargains
American Auto Bargains claims to offer a searchable database in their members' area. This is not the case. Instead, it offers links to external auction sites. These sites are loaded within the members' area Internet browser frame and is not actually a part of their own website. They do not sell the services that they claim.

[DESCRIPTION FROM MANUFACTURERS WEB SITE]

Cars are occasionally repossessed by banks or seized by Uncle Sam. But storing cars is expensive, so they need to sell them as fast as possible! There are hundreds of auctions going on every day - it's a full-time job just keeping up! We offer all that information in one single database. Once you're registered, you'll get immediate access to our database, and you can get started right away, buying and selling at government auctions.

Detailed Ratings

Features American Auto Bargains is centered on the auction market in the United States and is 80% dedicated to the automobile market. This website offers an impressive search feature on its homepage that is not present in the members area, and does not have a database of its own automobile or real estate listings as one might be led to believe. Instead, it offers its members a decently organized area where they can search other websites for deals on automobiles.

In the members area on the right-hand column, users can search different auction databases, such as eBay, Yahoo, and the Nationwide Auction System, which are all free sites users can access on their own without the help of American Auto Bargains. On the left-hand column of the users area, members can search through over 20 links that take them to external auction sites. Most of these are government websites. When accessed, these websites are loaded within the frame of American Auto Bargains website. This might make certain un-savvy web users believe that American Auto Bargains provides all of these services, when they do not.

The website does offer something that others do not, a decent collection of auction articles. For beginners in the field, these are helpful additions. American Auto Bargains only offers links to external car auction sites.
Ease of Use American Auto Bargains is easy to use. Once the US $34.95 is paid, you will be sent an e-mail containing the membership website, found on another domain. This allows the website to keep the contents of their website confidential. Once in the members area, the search features for eBay auctions, Yahoo! auctions, and the Nationwide Auction System are well organized. Also, each link has a description of what can be completed or learned from each auction website listed.
Content Quality The only content that American Auto Bargains can say is their own is their listing of helpful articles. All its other content is made up of material from other websites. The quality of the design is OK, but its content is lacking. Some of the sites that American Auto Bargains presents require additional user fees. This means that someone who has just paid the membership fee to American Auto Bargains must pay out more money to join other websites. This is not exactly an ethical business practice. American Auto Bargains will most likely make a profit from users signing up for these other services, when those services were promised on their homepage.
The Good The only pros that American Auto Bargains might receive are that it makes searching online auction websites a little easier since all the external websites can be accessed from one location, and their articles are helpful.
The Bad The cons against American Auto Bargains weigh against it heavily. Users should also be careful when entering their credit card information through this website. Credit card information could be compromised because the members area of American Auto Bargains does not contain any secure web pages (viewable with a lock or the http domain extension).
The Bottom Line Overall, the homepage of American Auto Bargains promises one thing and delivers another. For users who are just starting out their auction careers, this might be a good place to gather a few helpful resources, but nothing more. The website does not search databases and does not give its members listings according to area, make, model, or year. Instead, it offers some helpful articles and some external links. American Auto Bargains has quite a bit to work on if it wishes to compete with other auction websites. American Auto Bargains is not a database of cars, but instead a database of other auction sites.
